Why is Christmas Island called Christmas Island if most everyone is Buddhist?
Christmas is a Christian holiday so how did the island get its name when its primarily a Buddhist island?

- It was discovered on Christmas Day.... seriously.
- same reason easter island is called easter island
- same reason Greenland is called Greenland though it is all snow and ice.
- Did you know that you can crack a meditating Buddhist up every time by whispering, "you can call me anything, but don't call me late for dinner?" Well, if you can make a Buddhist laugh with that old ditty, then what makes you think he'd be conscious enough to know what his island is called?
- The island was named by Captain William Mynorsecof the ship Royal Mary which first discovered the island on December 25th 1643.
