- Far, far, far better than the open ocean.
- No children are held in Australian detention centres but are instead released into the community, along with their mothers or another family member. Conditions on Christmas Island are comfortable with air conditioning and decent food though they're getting a bit crowded at present. The detention centre isn't a palace by any means, but you can be certain that illegals held there are well cared for and are far better off than they ever could have hoped to be in their home countries.
